Motivation and Conflict Resolution

This training seminar will help you to understand workplace conflict, its causes and its impact. Conflict resolution is often seen as a 'win-lose' situation, or a constant series of compromises. This training will help you understand and deal with conflict in a way that considers and respects the individual as well as cultural differences. You will be able to recognise the kinds of language that hinder or help relationships, size up the situation and keep it from becoming destructive to ongoing business relationships.

The training seminar uses accelerated learning methods to facilitate awareness, change and empowerment. This training is highly interactive, practical and skills-focused, leaving a tool bag of practical and proven techniques for individual and team success.

The training has these objectives:

  • ·o help the delegates build better relationships;
  • to provide with the tips to deal with 'difficult people';
  • to look at relationships & conflict and its various stages;
  • to understand the impact of motivations & differences in conflict;
  • to become comfortable with various conflict styles and resolution methods;
  • to understand the language of conflict and responsible and effective communication styles.

Each delegate will be provided with:


  • a highly practical booklet of Strength Deployment Inventory;
  • a handbook Skills for Selling Success prepared by our associate Shay McConnon;
  • a book Resolving Conflict (Communicators, 2002) written by our associate Shay McConnon.

Training content and objectives:


How the View Explains Our Differences. This module recognizes that each of us has our unique window on the world, which is subjective, partial and likely to be distorted. This can explain why we are different from and often difficult for each other.

Differences in Personality Types. This module introduces you to the basic personality types and typical sources of tension across the styles. You will discover that strengths can be experienced as weaknesses.

Fight the Difference or Celebrate it? Is conflict inevitable? Can conflict be constructive? This module suggests that conflict comes more from the management of these differences than from the differences themselves. Understand why rows can spiral out of control.

Are you Building a Bridge or a Barrier? Explore the win-win and the win-lose mindsets and the consequences of these approaches. Discover the language that fuels conflict and find out how 'you' and 'I' can become 'we'.

Understand and Manage Your Feelings. Listening is key to making the transformation from 'you' against 'me' to 'us' against the problem. This module gives some practical ways to defuse your own anger and to manage the feelings of others. You will know when to take time out.

Develop Your Skills and Increase Your Choices. This module will help you to discover the three key skills for managing conflict. You will learn how to listen acceptingly, talk constructively and negotiate successfully, Also ways to disagree and keep rapport.

Four Steps to Resolution. This module gives you guidelines to manage differences in open and honest ways without conflict or argument. This four-step model gives you the language and the processing for win-win. The 'steps' will reduce defensiveness, deepen understanding and create collaboration. Learn to deal with power plays.

Preventing Conflict. This module will show you how to nip conflict in the bud. You will discover ways and techniques to deal with the irritations and minor tensions rather than let them fester.
